I have to say that I liked S1 and S2 is good also at least to me. Now I'm not the kind of person that critiques something based on dialogue and technical chemistry of the script. I'm not that good that I can do that. I can honestly say that from the ads and previews that I saw during S2 last year I didn't think that I would like it but Netflix put it on and I thought I would check it out and I have to say (again) that I liked it.
I really like the concept around what AHS does with telling a short story each season. I'm a big fan of that now!

I've been binge watching the first two seasons of "Longmire" recently. Didn't expect to like it but I'm really digging it. It is a bit silly how often people are murdered in this sleepy little Wyoming town but once you get passed that there's a lot to like.

Anyone catch any of "Black Sails" yet? It's this new little Pirate show over on Starz and it's actually pretty good. I wasn't exactly sold on it until near the end of the second episode but so far it has my recommendation. Also, anyone who's played through Assassin's Creed 4 will recognize the locations and quite a few of the names.

Typically I don't watch new shows. I wait a few weeks to see what the rating are going to do before I hop on but this year I've been making an effort to start at the beginning. I'm probably setting myself up for a lot of heartbreak as shows I really enjoy to die quickly but I've got too much free time lately and can't afford video games right now.
I caught three new Pilots recently. Mind Games, Believe, and Resurrection. While I enjoyed them all enough to continue on to the second episode they're far from equals.
First off, Mind Games. I guess the quick pitch would be that it's sort of a mix between "White Collar" and "Suits" with some Derren Brown type stuff thrown in there. Christian Slater and Steve Zahn use a mix con artistry and human behavioral psychology to achieve various things for their various clients. I've been a pretty big fan of Christian Slater ever since seeing the movie "Kuffs" back in the day and Steve Zahn was damn good on "Treme" so this is the one I was the most excited about before hand. In the end it didn't disappoint. So far it's got solid, smart stories and a great cast. Steve Zahn, especially plays bipolar quite well. In the end I'd like to give it a cautious recommendation as even though it's a great show it seems nobody's watching and it won't be around very long.
Next is "Believe". This feels a lot like Keifer Sutherland's "Touch" over on Fox last year but the Child is a Girl with more superpowers and a considerably less likable "Guardian" character. That said, I really liked "Touch" a lot I welcome "Believe" with open arms. It's got a good mix of action and mystery and the leads have great chemistry. There's a "twist" near the end of the first episode that seemed pretty obvious just from watching the commercials but it's the kind of thing I expected a network show to string along and not reveal until the finale. All in all, I'd recommend giving this a shot though the Pilot being directed by Alfonso CuarĂ³n does sort of feel like a bait and switch and the rest of the series can't possibly match that style on a weekly basis.
Lastly is "Resurrection", my least favorite of the bunch but I still have hope for it. I was really only curious about it after reading that this show is the reason "Revival" won't be making it to television. Apparently the plots were too similar and ABC chose "Resurrection" instead. I get the choice from ABC's point of view. "Resurrection" is far more family friendly, it's simple and it's safe. Though the Pilot was a pretty good and intriguing episode of television the second episode gave me the feeling that the creators had never planned on it getting picked up to series and thus have no idea where the story's going. Episode 2 did almost nothing to push the story forward and while I get that with it being a mystery based show you can't answer all the questions but this episode did nothing but re-ask the same questions from the Pilot.
What's worse is that we've got two main characters very devoted to answer those questions but are constantly blocked by characters who simply don't want any answers. It's a bit frustrating because the premise and the Pilot were quite good but I've already lost faith in the writers to actually pull it off. Also, it being the safest and simplest of these three shows it makes me sad to say it's also doing significantly better ratings-wise. While it's got potential I can't really recommend this one just yet.

Just finished Season 1 of Dexter. It's not quite gripped me like other shows but I got really into it by the end of the season so I'm looking forward to digging a little deeper!

Nice. I remember a time when Dexter was the show I looked most forward to every week.

Fans of "Beware the Batman" will be happy to know that some station in New Zealand has been airing new episodes which means they are all available via torrent sites. I really, really liked the first 11 episodes that aired here in the states but it gets even better. Ra's Al Ghul finally shows up (voiced by Fringe's Lance Reddick) for a really awesome three part episode. Not sure how I feel about their take on Harvey Dent though.

Just discovered a show called " In the Flesh". I think it's a BBC show but I'm not sure as the version I downloaded was cropped to the point the station was cut off. Anyway, the show takes places a few years after a Zombie Uprising and a cure has been discovered. The cure returns Zombies to the mental state (they stay pale scarred) they were at before being turned. The main character is a "medicated zombie" who is reintroduced to his home town. The conflict comes from the fact that his hometown is one of the least "zombie tolerant" places in the country. At only three episodes the first series was pretty damn good. Complicated characters, and a nice twist on the zombie genre lead to some pretty touching moments in the finale. And now I'm just gonna shotgun some thoughts on various tv shows and maybe bring something up that actually sparks a conversation. Not that I mind talking to myself all the time. The Shameless season finale blew my mind. Not an extremely shocking twist but one I didn't expect to happen so soon. From Dusk til Dawn has improved quite a bit. The plot is absolutely silly but Robert Rodriguez adapting a Tarantino script into a TV series isn't gonna be ground in reality. The actors have really grown into their roles. I kinda feel like Agents of Shield is just going to go into another holding pattern. Waiting for the movies to do semi interesting things before they can follow suit. It sorta feels like Arrow has picked up some of Under the Dome's writing staff. This most recent episode felt like everyone's first four lines were just characters explaining past plot points. Supernatural continues to be Supernatural and that's just fine. I found it kinda difficult to stay focused on the Orphan Black season two premiere. Fargo was awesome but as a lifelong resident of Minnesota I can say that the only experience I have with that accent is from TV and movies. Not a fan of Californication's plot so far this season but I'll watch Hank and Charlie do just about anything. Resurrection is extremely frustrating. It feels like the plot would be moving along a lot faster if the characters weren't so against getting answers. Really wish ABC had gone ahead with Revival instead of this. Revolution would be a lot easier to get and stay into if NBC didn't keep putting it on superlong hiatuses. I swear it feels like the network actually wants this to fail. Also a few episodes ago the geek got stuck in that cliche episode where he thought everything was normal and the series up to this point hadn't happened. During one of these scenes his assistant told him he was having trouble getting Timberwolves tickets. The Timberwolves are Minnesota's basketball team and as a Minnesotan I can say that Timberwolves tickets are usually given away for free. Unless they're playing against a team with a superstar, nobody here gives a shit about the Timberwolves. I think I'm in the minority here but I really like Believe I totally understand some of the complaints but I think maybe the fact that I sat through the whole first season of Under the Dome my standards have lowered immensely. A lot of shows I really like are ending this year. Sons of Anarchy, Boardwalk Empire, The Newsroom, Californication, Wilfred, Justified, and Trueblood. I think the one I'm going to miss the most is Newsroom. I really, really hope Almost Human gets a comeback but I kinda doubt it. The Purple Wedding!
Pretty sure Hannibal is my favorite show right now.

Loved this season of Shameless - until the finale twist, which I hated more than I can possibly put into words. A total turning away from a decision I really respected the creative team for.
Right now, I'm watching The Good Wife, Orphan Black, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Mindy Project week to week. Those first four are probably my four favourite series on TV at the moment. Mindy is pretty good, a nice diversion that occasionally hits me right in the sweet spot.

I really liked it. I never believed that Jimmy was dead in the first place. The only problem I had with it was the showrunner's so blatantly lying about it. But if he had really been dead it would have ranked as one of the worst main character death in the history of television.

But if he had really been dead it would have ranked as one of the worst main character death in the history of television. See, there, we will disagree. I loved his death. It felt real, and the only thing I'd have liked better was for his body to wash up on shore midseason to underscore it. I think the character is terrible for the show - in his storylines the writers indulge all of their worst tics, and including him now will feel like a total backslide - for Fiona and the show. His death, which I respected because it forced the character to face the consequences for all the stupid decisions he made, is now just a cheap fakeout. That this season was so strong in his absence is the furthest thing from a coincidence I can imagine.
The most disappointing thing is - this season felt like an affirmation of consequences, and the finale shit all over that. Between Fiona catching a random - and not entirely earned - break with the parole officer, Frank surviving his surgeries and getting off scot-free, and Steve/Jimmy/WTF his name is having his actually meaningful death be reversed for a twist, the show's actually saying: there are no consequences for anything. The universe will give our characters special treatment because we like them. Sigh.
(And I only have this level of rage because I love this show and I can see next season going right down the tubes again. If they'd killed Frank and left Jimmy dead, the show would have earned my all-time respect. This... was the opposite.

So to walk him off camera and expect us to just believe he didn't get away was just silly.
I agree that Frank should have died or at the very least not gone back to his old ways so quickly. Fiona's third chance was a little silly too. She should have ratted on her boyfriend's brother rather than just being let out.
The whole no consequences thing is just the way the show has always worked though. There's no show if everyone's handed a reason to learn from their mistakes. Either they all go straight and get boring or you start to hate them for being so stupid.

Either they all go straight and get boring or you start to hate them for being so stupid. Cept when the show pulls through on consequences - like the show did this season largely with Lip and Ian - it often pulls out its best material! The version of the show I like best is these f*cked up people trying to make it in a hostile world. That said, there's a bunch of different ways to view the show and I know my favourite's not the only one.
