WHO ARE WE?
RJ Alden Lackie, 23, is a working screenwriter and university grad from Toronto. Best known as the screenwriter for Smokebomb Entertainment's mobile app game STATE OF SYN: THE WORLD OUTSIDE, he's also a veteran of the script series scene. Since 2005 he's written scripts for script series like MZPtv's Slayer Academy, Night Stalker, & Pathways and, most recently, The VPN's Easy, as well as a Network Producer at Compass' predecessor, The Entertainment Network [TEN]. Alden is focused on two missions here at Compass: pioneer and popularise the script series format that the virtual series community has championed by showing the industry what a great training and storytelling tool it is, and offering a safe and educational space for new screenwriters to learn and grow without worry of penalty. Dan Taylor, 21, served as an administrator on The Entertainment Network [TEN] for almost five years since the network's conception in 2008 and is now responsible for the Video content on The Compass Network. From Devon, Dan started writing in his teenage years and is known for creating Charmed: Reset Reality which ran on Online Virtual Network [OVN] and later TEN for three seasons between 2006-10. However his commitments to university, musical theatre and more recently his career as a General Manager for a cinema chain have often hindered his progress as a writer. Most recently his interests lie in other mediums of web entertainment including podcasts, Youtube vlogs and video web series. Dan departed Compass in April 2014.
Kyle West, 27, has been involved in online-based writing for over 13 years. A former student of Drama and Film & TV during college, Kyle then moved onto Performing Arts for his university degree. Soon moving off to specialise in writing and directing for both the stage and film, Kyle's claim to fame is that he quit his degree two weeks before the end, after numerous creative differences with his course lecturers about the content of his final piece. Regardless, Kyle has always looked back fondly on his time at university, not least for the numerous opportunities it afforded him both on stage and behind the scenes. In the years since, he has focused on his personal life, marrying his college sweetheart (2009) and making advances in his work career. During this time, his writing has been limited to purely an online audience, something he will continue at Compass, whilst he now heads up Compass' audio department, taking great enjoyment from putting together podcast shows on a weekly basis. Kyle departed Compass in April 2014.
