I felt somewhat similar to you re: Frozen when I first watched it. It does some really interesting, trope-breaking things, but it's also a bit wonky structurally in ways that bugged me. It's really grown on me in hindsight though, and I'll probably rewatch it a some point because, despite it being a bit disappointing in some story areas, I loved the characters.
I really liked Gone Girl. I want to see it again, because on my first watch the book was looming in my brain and I want to see it anew without worrying about the adaptation / what's coming.

Yeah, but Frozen doesn't really break movie tropes. It just breaks a few Disney Princess Tropes which should have been done away with long ago.
I didn't realize Gone Girl was based on a book. I totally would have read that while I waited months for it to hit the torrent sites.
Currently downloading The Interview, which I wasn't all that interested in until the "Terrorists" got involved. Now I feel like I need to see it.

Watched "Birdman", the other day. Meh. Great performances and all the long takes are impressive but the plot really starts to drag in a hurry. It just felt like it never really went anywhere.
Watched "Big Hero 6" as well. Didn't have the highest hopes for it but it turned out okay. Being a fan of CGI I figured there would at least be something to look at but I actually didn't hate the story either. There aren't a whole lot of surprises but it's got a slight twist on an old formula.
With screener season in full swing I figure I'll be watching Inherent Vice and/or American Sniper in the next few days.

Finally watched "Inherent Vice" the other day. I wanted to like it a lot. Joaquin Phoenix certainly gives an interesting performance with a unique character but I quickly found myself messing around on the computer while the movie played in the background. I'm not sure how a film with a burn out, hippy private eye ended up so boring.
Also watched "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit". Another pretty dull one. It had some decent suspense and a pretty cool fight scene but it was pretty by the numbers. I remember seeing commercials for it back in the day and thinking the movie looked like it had a cool "don't trust anybody vibe" to the point it seemed they were giving away all the twists. Turns out that was just clever editing.
